Pink dogwood flowering head, seen from side

Pink dogwood flowering head, seen from side

A flowering head on our pink dogwood (Cornus florida) tree, with other such in the background. The four pink (or, for most trees, white) objects, about 2 inches/5 cm long, are not petals. They are bracts. You can see the actual petals in one of the opened flowers on this flowering head.
