Hydrangea flowers in winter, cropped 2

Hydrangea flowers in winter

First, thank God that we still have power. Those who are supposed to know are predicting some ice in Upstate South Carolina, and that often means no power -- branches and trees fall on the lines. This photo, of a hydrangea in a planting put out by the city of Easley, South Carolina, looks very much like this one. The two photos were taken on the same day, two views of the same hydrangeas. The large objects with (usually) four petals, or maybe four bracts, are the winter remains of sterile flowers. the smaller objects are the winter remains of fertile flowers. Thanks for looking. Isn't God a great artist? This is the last of the hydrangea photos, for now, anyway. I am curator of a hydrangea gallery, that is, photos of these flowers by others.
